Mission and Purpose
Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
So, what do I see?
- I see nations that are without Christ being touched by God’s people in loving ways.
- I see men and women with little to no training being asked to shepherd or lead these new believers with what they have in their spiritual toolbox.
- I see the need for seasoned pastors and leaders with educational experience and a teaching/mentoring gifting to come alongside these national leaders and raise the capacity for reproducible leadership.
The ELM Story
Long ago, I received a prompting from God to have a heart for missions. From high school days of missions trips to Native American reservations, to young adult overseas short-term missions trips, my life trajectory has shaped me for this new season. Having pastored and associate pastored churches for over 43 years, there is a wealth of experience that can be passed on to others just getting started or needing a fresh perspective. Pursuing and completing a Master of Arts in Strategic Leadership has enabled me to understand and develop systematic steps for equipping leaders and pastors.
So now, Mary and I are prepared to hand off the baton of pastoral ministry at Abundant Life Foursquare Church to a young couple that we love and trust, as we embark on a full-time occupational call to invest in the nations all that we have been given as a life work. Based on 30 years of missionary work, I was asked to pursue a role as an Emissary for Foursquare Missions International earlier this year, and I completed the training to prepare for this new role. Partnering with George and Joyce Butron in South and Southeastern Asia, I will be helping to equip primarily Foursquare pastors and leaders in reproducible leadership development. In addition, I will still stay connected to my family relationships and ministry in Nigeria. So, the ministry plate will remain full of opportunities to serve.
The Ask
Big changes are definitely in the wind. We are preparing to downsize and streamline our lives to pour our hearts into this season. We are selling our house in Hollister, and purchasing a home in Ridgecrest, Calif., where Mary was born and raised, and where we met 55 years ago. Being close to Mary’s mother and closer to our grandsons is important for us, especially as I travel for long periods of time.
This is a faith journey on so many levels, but that has always been the case. However, there is a security of church family love and support that we have enjoyed for so many years that will help carry us forward: All of us together with a heart for God, the city, and the world. To this end, we still need the support of family and friends to accomplish the mission ahead. We are traveling to different places to share the vision and invite people to partner with us in prayer and financial support. While we have reduced our personal finances as low as we can, we still need help on the domestic side of life to have a roof over our heads and food on the table here in the states. We also are believing that some partners will give to the ministry side of life to finance the travel expenses as well as helping to underwrite the cost of pastors in poor nations gathering for training.
Although we are Foursquare Emissaries, there is no corporate funding for this ministry. We ask for people to listen to the Lord of the Harvest, and help send us to the nations. Thank you for your love, prayers, and support, as we go and serve the nations in these last days, the days of the fruitful harvest of souls, before the Lord’s return.
